Zodiac Series

Simple Charms Series

Nadira Necklace

Arabian for Precious, the Nadira necklace is made from scratch with gemstones exhibiting a beautiful range of purples, oranges, reds and black.

The focal is about 1.8", with a frame handcrafted from scratch with individual handshaped components and wire wrapped.  I deliberately strayed away from using a regular cut amethyst for the focal, settling instead for a carefully chosen nugget of step cut african amethyst.  The central focal is then graced with 5 sparking gemstones, 2 black spinel onions, red garnets and golden citrine.

I added more amethysts, citrines and spinels on each side for a more regal touch.

Vines and then some

We're just inching into winter and I'm thinking spring.  Just did 2 vine earrings for late Winter/early Spring

Latifa Earrings

Made with 14k goldfilled wires, laboradorite & apatite.  Handshaped.

Wynne Earrings

The Hannah Necklace

Hannah..  Hebrew for "favoured", "grace".

I'm one for versatility in my designs - I try to create pieces which can be layered, mixed or matched whenever possible. My metallo and sugarberry ranges are good examples of such designs.

However, it has been a while since I exercised some versatility in my designs for the Gemmica range (formerly known as the Semper Amemus range).  Not since the Eternity pendants have I made liberal use of the necklace enhancer (the last of the eternity range was sold in early 2008)

Made with step cut amethysts, peridot, lemon quartz, sapphires and sterling silver, the Hannah necklace is created with flexibility in mind.  The Hannah necklace can be broken up into two, the amethyst step cut links function as a business function necklace - rich purples with coiled links provide a striking singular colour touch to any outfit.. the cluster section can be easily slipped onto a chain or omega chain or a neck wire or collar for a more dressy touch.  Put the two together and the necklace takes  on a wholly new look that simply screams elegant chic that can take you to the most formal functions.

Statement Rings & a Pendant

Some statement rings for the holiday season and beyond - a new range incorporating wire wrapping and metalsmithing to create rings which provide superior comfort compared to the current ranges of wire wrapped rings that are available on the market.  The design and method of construction of the rings and pendants are COPYRIGHTED w.e.f. 25th OCTOBER 2009.

Two pairs of earrings today, both goldfilled.

Laura Earrings
Laboradorite earrings arranged in a triple petal style on 14k goldfilled.

Creusa
According to Pindar's 9th Pythian Ode, Creusa was a naiad and daughter of Gaia who bore Hypseus, King of the Lapiths to the river god Peneus.
Peridot, Beer Quartz, London Blue Topaz on 14k goldfilled

Tellulah Necklace

Tellulah Necklace

Sterling silver with amethyst rondelles, freshwater cultured pearls and onyx faceted drops.

Length : 18"

Birds of Paradise

A tropical flower, Birds of Paradise is beautiful with a vibrant plumage of yellows greens and reds.

A new addition to my gemmica range, this necklace is made with citrines, laboradorites, garnets, peridots, freshwater cultured pearls, with a sizeable focal of a faceted flat "mystic" quartz disc.  The coating used reflects a myriad of warm colours reminiscent of the colours of sunset on a clear day on the beach, with a silver coating on the under side.

Length : 18"

Chloe Earrings

A simple piece incorporating tunduru sapphires, laboradorite and 14k goldfilled elements. The Chloe Earrings incorporate strong colours of reds, pinks, ambers, light salmon pinks in juxtaposition to the flashy blue of laboradorites.

Phoenix Rising

(tightened the wires after the photo taking - all in all a beautiful piece).

Tunduru sapphires need not necessarily originate from Tunduru, Africa but are generally now used for any diffusion treated sapphires which exhibit the same colours as the originally diffusion treated specimens from Tunduru. Songrea sapphires are also diffusion treated.

More Adventures on the Wild Side (with Clare Scott's beads)

I haven't had the opportunity to do slightly "artsy" pieces for quite a while. This week proved to be a reasonably fruitful week. Working with 14k goldfilled wires presented an opportunity to create some pieces around some soft glass beads which I had purchased over the course of the month from Clare Scott.

Admittedly, I have a fascination towards sharded lampwork - the randomness of each splotch of hot melting reactive shards across the smoothness of the soft glass base is a sight to behold.

Temptation, Ortus Mallum

The first of the series is Temptation (Ortus Mallum), a necklace made with Clare Scott's matte reactive sharded bead with a citrine briolette hanging from the bottom. The piece is made with 14k goldfilled wires and done ala my initial Jane Eyre hollow bead style which you can see on my facebook entry in August this year. The result is a necklace with an opulent feel and the bead resembles an artifact nestled within the frame.

Livia Drusilla
Following behind the trail of Temptation is Livia Drusilla (google her if you are unfamiliar with the name). I made every effort to create a frame that would effectively showcase the entire bead instead of subsuming them in a bracelet with plenty of competing elements. The completed pendant hangs from a black velour cord, which effectively enhances the beauty of the bead.

Origin - Ortus Verimas

Origin (Ortus Verimas) is made with the same bead set as Temptation. The slightly pebbled frame complements the sharded beads perfectly. The ear wires are left deliberately long.

Aeryn Sun

Aeryn Sun is a leading favourite of mine, primarily because of the design and colour of the reactive shards. The "cradle" of the bead is made using the afghan stitch with 14k goldfilled into a beautiful mesh that exceeded expectations.

Abstract of Amaterasu

Abstract of Amaeterasu.. an attempt to create a cradle with expandable space - I chose a triangle for this piece to nestle orb of psychaedelic swirls of colour. I added some random beads for an off kelter feel. It is an interesting piece.

Substantial bracelets are hard to find, especially those which are made with beautiful maille patterns like byzantine, jens pind, romanov, trizantine.

There are machine made variations but the look and feel of such machine made versions are different from hand assembled ones.

These are made with 8mm jump rings in 16ga - solid silver

Tamarind

Working with the Burmese mines and cutters in these recent years had been a really interesting experience. Learning about the ins and outs of the Burmese Rubies and Sapphires has been a continual eye opener. I had been introduced to Burmese curries (excellent mix of spices - with a restrained hand in excessive spicing and salting - way superior to the Muslim curries and the Singapore curries we have here, in my view), the excellent all time snack of la phet, a chickpea based vermicelli soup Mouhinga (I'm spelling it phonetically as I cannot remember offhand how it was spelt), Oun Nau Khau Hswe (seafoodish noodle soup with refreshing lime).. the list goes on.

I am addicted to their fresh concoction of Tamarind juice... the incredible fresh mix of tangy sourness of tamarind with soothing sugar/honey. I believe this originated from a East African recipe but I'm not sure. It is perfect with crushed ice, especially on a hot summer night.

Whilst I'm still on the topic of Burma (Myannma) - you would have heard that the American Congress has renewed the Tom Lantos Block Burmese Jade Act of 2008 which prohibits the import of Burmese Jade and Rubies in full for any jade/ruby acquisitions since September 2008 (See : http://www.jvclegal.org/index.php?categoryid=310 for full details).

And back to tamarinds and hot summers.. I had the opportunity to create a pair of earrings named after my current obsession with the tamarind - simply named tamarind, these are made using fancy colored sapphires and oxidised sterling silver which had been extensively polished to a soft grey.

Some New Hoop Selections in 14k Goldfilled.

Been sitting at my bench hacking, filing, forming for an hour or so. Made a variety of hoops, could be findings, could be the end product. Sizes range from 0.75" to 1.5" for the selections shown. The gem featured is an aquamarine faceted drop.

Vasilisa (Василиса)

More Russian based pieces, this one is spun off the russian fairy tale called Vasilisa the Beautiful. In the fairy tale, Vasilissa is the heroine of a Russian fairy tale who starts out as a poor girl and ends up marrying the Czar. (You can read the fairytale here, link opens in another window : http://www.surlalunefairytales.com/babayaga/index.html. Beautiful story and certainly more spunky than Cinderella, more of a mix of Cinderella and Rumpelstiltskin ).

Kofye (Кофе) & Galina

I've always liked the thought of thematic Russian designs for Fall & winter but I've never really done something to that inspiration. I decided to try my hand at it this time round, starting with Kofye & Galina.

Kofye (Кофе)

These are part of the metallo range. Borosilicate glass. Sterling silver. Kofye is a hollow bead with dense streaks of deep browns, with green golden boro discs on 14k goldfilled wires and chain.

Galina is a calm mix of blues and greens encased in northstar clear. Sterling silver. Handmade hook clasp.

Galina

Rhiannon 2

Rhiannon 2

Rhiannon 2 is one of those diminutive necklaces that just pops out and screams for attention.

I made a small sterling silver frame - about 15mm across, with a domed decorative loop below. Chain decoration.

slightly above 2" top to bottom.

Gemstones : whisky quartz, fancy sapphires, smoky quartz.

Amada

Just completed Amada, a pair of earrings for the MetalWeaver range which can double as a lovely pair of earrings for the bride. The inspiration for these come from a pair of bezel set earrings which a friend of mine wanted me to keep a look out for - apparently a client of hers lost one of the earrings and she was having a hard time trying to find a matched pair for them.

A Rose is Just a Rose

I've never liked those hilltribe roses that have been 100% plated in gold. So I've been trying my gold brushing onto these roses for quite a few and I'm quite satisfied with the results. Yes, they look "glitter-razzied" close up but from afar, they look like antiqued roses.

A Rose is Just A Rose

By the Light!

I'm working on the Fall 09 collection at the moment. This collection will set the tone of my designs from now on. The actual collection will be available to buyers and PRs within the next two weeks and will be unveiled late Summer / early fall. Stay tuned.

Line sheets will be available in 2 weeks.
